It’s barely turned November but with the first frost covering much of the country, winter is certainly on its way and that means our skin needs even more nourishing to stay looking beautifully healthy all year round. Especially when plummeting temperatures, steaming hot showers, harsh winds and central heating – all things that unfortunately don’t lend themselves to a radiant complexion.

Here’s our top three tips to keep your skin in top condition:

1. Wash in luke warm water.

1. Wash in luke warm water

Hot showers and baths always feel good in the winter and it’s quite tempting to perk up your skin with hot water, steam or a cold splash. Actually, this will do the opposite and your skin is having a rough enough time as it is. Hot water strips your skin of its natural oils and rinsing it with cold water will leave it shocked and reddened.
Simply wash your face with lukewarm water and a product such as R10 Labs Active-Performance Face Wash which is formulated to gently and naturally rid your skin of impurities.

2. Moisturise. Moisturise. Moisturise.

It’s that important that we had to repeat it three times. One of the most damaging aspects of winter is the constant contrast of going from cold environments to artificially hot ones. Added to this, we comfort eat stodgy food, suffer from a lack of natural light and on top of all of it, there’s the indulgence of the winter holidays with rich food, parties and alcohol.
This all leads to further stressing your skin barrier, so apply a rich, nourishing moisturiser to deeply condition your skin, such as our 5in1 Super Hydrating Face Moisturiser or Ultimate Recovery Body Moisturiser formulated from wholesome natural ingredients such as Shea Butter & Argan Oil with the addition of LiquiCrystal Technology® means your skin is able to protect itself efficiently, reducing redness and sensitivity.

2. Moisturise. Moisturise. Moisturise.

3. Feed your skin from the inside too

When the effects of winter are showing, a great way to combat those effects is to boost the skin with Omegas (also called Essential Fatty Acids) both topically and from the inside, which will help repair the skin’s lipid barrier and leave your skin both protected, feeling more supple as well as looking healthier and glowing.
Boost your intake of Omegas internally by eating lots of cold water fish, using olive oil and snacking on walnuts, which are always around at Christmas. Salmon is often hailed as the skin super food as it is a fantastic source of protein, Vitamin A, D, B3, B12, B6 and the minerals phosphorus, potassium and magnesium. It is also the best known source of Omega 3. Hot fillets of smoked salmon gives this usual summer fish a winter twist. Serve Salmon with a vegetable rich in Vitamin C to really be the ‘complete skin deal’.
